About us
The Victorian Prostate Cancer Research Consortium (VPCRC) is a dedicated research-based consortium established in 2008. The establishment of the VPCRC will align with the aims of the Victorian Cancer Agency (VCA) to integrate cancer research across Victoria and to promote a coordinated approach to the application and translation of cancer research. The VPCRC incorporates the majority of prostate cancer researchers in the state and will foster strategic partnerships between these researchers as well as a comprehensive approach to linking cancer research with clinical practice.
The consortium will operate as an ‘institute without walls’ with its research groups located among the collaborating organisations. By reducing competition among researchers and promoting meaningful collaborations between participants, the VPCRC seeks to produce more vibrant and innovative research into prostate cancer.
The Victorian Cancer Agency has provided funding and assistance in the establishment of the VPCRC. A major role of the VPCRC is to attract funding and investment from other sources such as philanthropic charities, funding agencies, donors as well as funding from government and non-government agencies, to ensure the viability of the consortium.
